Common Misfits Issue 5

Jessa Kelsa had just finished her shift at Galin City General. It was time to meet with her husband at the Midtown Café when she was approached by a woman in an alley. The woman pulled her into the shadows and took off her mask.

“Ashley,” she exclaimed.

“Hello aunt Jessa,” Ashley responded.

“So you’re the hero of Marque City I’ve heard so much about.”

“Yeah it’s a long story we don’t have the time to go into right now. Need your help. I’m working with a team and one of them needs your help.”

“And so I take it a hospital is out of the question.”

“With what’s going on yes. I need to fly you over to the facility he is at.”

“Let me inform my husband that I can’t make our 6:00 date, grab my bag at home and meet you back here. Will that work?”

“Yes it will.”

Jessa met Ashley back over at the alley after some time and they took off.

Mathew approached the team back in the hanger of Hectors prison.

“This place is in constant flux,” he started. “I’m not even sure your friend Hector is even in full control of it.”

“He’s playing even more of a dangerous game than I thought,” said Rufus analyzing the situation. “Do you have any idea as to how to get out of here?”

“Other than beat it out of Hector no,” Mathew responded.

“We need to get him out in the open than or somehow angry enough to come after us. Is there anything else to report on?”

“If we keep to the parts of your planet instead of moving out in the open there is less of a chance that we will get shifted.”

“Then that is what we will do.”

The team moved out of the hanger and got near part of Drakthar that was nearest to them they moved along a piece at a time.

“So they figured out a way around,” said the Matron over at the Point of Reality.

“Do we have any moves to play?” General Chain asked.

“For both situations yes,” the Matron replied. “Have our Zen Shifter amp up his game at to what specific parts of Drakthar he can bring in. As far as those on earth, it may be time to ramp up with our newly upgraded squad of our army.”

“Are you suggesting I use the Anti-particle squads?”

“Bring in one of the squads for testing. We’ll see how it plays out.”

“Yes Matron,” General Chain said taking a bow and walking off.

Ashley landed at the facility with Jessa and they walked in. Jason had wrapped his wound in some gauze to halt the bleeding.

“Jesus he took a hit,” said Jessa walking over.

“Can you fix him?” Carrie asked.

“Not as good as an actual hospital visit and some recovery but I’ll at least be able to stich him up and give him some pain killers. That is about all I can do for this.”

“Please get started.” An alarm went off on the system Carrie was using to track the Zen Soldiers. She walked over to check on it. “It looks like there has been a major attack in Moscow. We will be a man short but we will have to make do. Jason,” she ordered, “keep in touch with Christie . If you feel you are adequate enough to move, ask to be shifted in. The rest of you lets go.”

A portal opened in Moscow and Christie followed by the rest of the team shifted in. There were Russian police in front of the Kremlin along with the intelligence bureau. Carrie ran up with the group.

“Greg how good is your Russian?” Carrie asked one of the troops.

“Relatively,” Greg answered. “It’s good enough to help us in this.”

“Then ask them what happened.”

Greg spoke to the officers and they responded.

“It looks like they barricaded themselves around the Kremlin to make a statement and kill all those that approach.”

“Ask them to stand back and let us handle this.”

Greg translated.

“They asked who we are.”

“Just a bunch of common misfits trying to find our place in the world,” Carrie said bonding with Replicor. The team walked forward to engage the army.

The other team was walking through Hectors prison. They stepped out into the open a bit when they were shifted into the main gathering area. Hector was standing in the middle.

“Oh great he decided to join us,” said Ross. “This will make things interesting.

“I swear to god,” said Mathew, “if you make another boor writing reference, I will do everything in my power to make the next fight as miserable for you as possible.”

“Calm your tits dude. That wasn’t my plan at all.”

Yes it was. If you are trying to disconnect me from the audience I will not take it lightly. I’m starting to feel slightly better about our connection. Please don’t make me regret it

“So you found a way around,” Hector bellowed.

“And why bring us into a wide open space?” Rufus asked.

“Mainly to show you how helpless you brats are in here. That and there’s a bit of fun to be had. Take care now.”

Mathew held out a hand but Hector was gone. Out of the shadows came an army of robots.

“Oh how the hell among all the Drakthar things he could get ahold of he got them?” Rufus questioned.

“Who are they?” Astrid asked.

“They are the Drakthar defensive force. It’s an army of highly trained robots that could decimate any force without breaking a sweat if they could well… sweat.”

“Then let’s give them a fight for their money,” Mathew said blasting Ross in the chest. Elania and Astrid merged and the team took off running.

At Russia there were sparks in front of Kathleen, and Ashley as they approached.

“Shit,” said Christie shifting them over to her.

The sparks turned into large explosions. The Zen soldiers took off running at Carrie. Christie shifted over to Carrie and they ran over. The troops took up posts and opened fire. There were sparks in front of them and a wall of electricity formed. The Anti particle squad was taking up the rear of the Matron’s forces. Two of them were touching the wall of the Kremlin and draining power from it to channel the walls the troops were faced with. The troops tried moving but the walls moved as well and started pushing back.

“Greg you and your men fall back for now,” Carrie ordered. “We need to get distract the range channeling the power.” She said to Christie who was shifting Zen soldiers at Kathleen who threw them at the walls of the Kremlin.

“On It,” Christie responded.

The Anti-particle squad held out their hands and more sparks leading to more explosions appeared. Christie shifted over to Ashley who was throwing fireballs forward.

“What’s the plan,” asked Ashley.

“While everyone is distracted, we take out the ones in charge of the walls.” Christie responded. “I’ll shift us over. This is going to get rocky so prepare for it.”

Replicor produced 2 blades for Carrie and she engaged the soldiers. Kathleen wrapped her ribbons around a light pole and ripped it out of the ground. With the ribbons, she ripped it in two and launched the two pieces forward. Christie held onto Ashley with one hand and held the other out. They shifted to a Zen soldier, then to a squad member, and over to one of the ones channeling. Their presence didn’t go unnoticed. The other three squad members turned around. Ashley gathered fire and turned on of the channeling members into dust. Three sparks emerged Christie shifted Ashley around behind them. Holding out her hand, Christie shifted them into the explosions. Ashley gathered fire and released it killing the final Anti-particle member. The troops opened fire and killed the rest of the Zen soldiers. Christie shifted everyone over to one spot, shifted over to the portal and they were gone.

The Matron was channeling to Hector from the Point of Reality as he stood in the war room.

“Kill the m if you can. Otherwise split them up,” she said.

“Will do Matron,” Hector acknowledged.

A battle shall test Rufus, the Ethereal Trio, Shifter and the Harbinger of Death leading to how well can they work together. For now the misfits would fight together to survive.
